Water Shedding Water shedding is when a municipality in a country decides to restrict water usage due to the lack of water available so that it can be saved for future use and that less water is being wasted by the people living in that municipality. The main reasons for water shedding are lack of availability of water in a country due to little or no rain fall (which South Africa experienced in the summer months) and hot summers which dries up water in the dams. The South African government believed that by restricting the water usage it would help reduce the water usage and save some water in the dams as many, if not all, the dams in South Africa were below the recommended height as the water was too low. The water restrictions did scare some of the businesses in South Africa that required a lot of water for its operations such as car wash businesses, sports fields, schools farms, mining sectors, electricity providers, etc. So many of the businesses that operate in South Africa were affected by t his water restrictions that was implemented. The government did allow businesses and sport clubs a special permit to allow them to continue using water as they needed them to operate efficiently. The current water crisis in South Africa is a national concern for the whole of South Africa even those municipalities that are not directly affected by it as in the long term it will affect the whole of the country very badly.
